Taming Black Swans:
Adaptive Leadership, Ethics and Change in Canadian Emergency Management
This ePortfolio brings together coursework, reflections, and research writing from my Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) program. The work housed here reflects my research interest in leadership within complex public-service and emergency-management systems, examined through a participant-observer lense formed by my professional experience. Throughout the portfolio, I explore questions of ethics, responsibility, sense-making, and decision-making under conditions of uncertainty, paying close attention to how leadership is practiced across institutional, political and professional boundaries. Rather than serving as a simple archive of assignments, this portfolio is intentionally created to demonstrate the evolution of my thinking and the relation between theory, lived experience, and reflexive inquiry as I move toward the completion of my research project and a framework for taming black swans.
